A British Driving Holiday
Whether you’re British and looking for a holiday on home soil or whether you’re coming here on holiday from elsewhere, car hire is certainly one of the easiest and most comfortable way of getting around.
When looking for car hire, UK suppliers can issue you a range of cars to suit your needs, from small economic models to something a little more luxurious. Then, once everything is booked, the United Kingdom is yours to explore.
Of course, Britain is not as well known for its driving road as some of its more illustrious peers (such as America with its Route 66 and Italy’s Stelvio Pass) so you will most certainly be looking more for the destination than the journey – unless of course sitting in traffic on the M25 sounds mightily appealing.
In which case, here are some places of interest in the UK’s South West, a famous tourist spot. Also, all these places are within a reasonable drive of one another.
North Devon provides a great place to start, offering the picturesque scenery of quintessential English towns. You can sample local ales and ciders, or if you plan to drive off soon afterwards, a Devonshire cream tea may be more fitting.
Afterwards, heading along the M5 you get to the largest city in the South West, Bristol.
Bristol offers much to the discerning tourist, offering a combination of English town and country all in one place. Where history is concerned, the iconic Clifton suspension Bridge towers over the valley below, providing a great vantage point – plus it only costs 50p to cross.
Then, a short drive across the Severn Crossing (a decidedly more expensive bridge toll than in Clifton) brings you into Wales. A little while along the M4 brings you at junction 32, with the road to Cardiff to your left and the way to the hills and valleys of the Brecon Beacons to your right.
In choosing Cardiff, you can see the culture and heritage in Wales’s capital city, or if you take the Brecon road, miles of uninterrupted roads over rolling hill ranges await you and your hire car.
There is plenty to see and do in the UK; why not hire a car to ferry you between them?
