Ibiza for People Who Hate Clubbing
If you’ve spotted great deals on flights to Ibiza but can’t stomach the thought of spending your whole weekend getting smashed with sweaty strangers in a nightclub, you might want to take a look at all the other possibilities this island has to offer. Ibiza has been a holiday destination long before Pacha and Space arrived, with good reason.
Getting There
For cheap flights to Spain, you can look at budget carriers such as Ryanair which offer daily flights to Ibiza from London, Birmingham, Bournemouth, and numerous other UK locations.
Go Spelunking
The Cova d’es Culleram is one of Ibiza’s top attractions for intrepid explorers or history buffs. First discovered in 1907, this massive cave was originally a temple erected to the goddess Tanoit. It’s located in the San Vicente area of the island and can easily be reached by car and on foot. Other caves to explore on the island include the Ses Fontanelles caves and the Caves C’an Marca. Artifacts collected from these caverns can be viewed at the Archaeological Museum within Dalt Vila.
Chill out on Benirras Beach
At the north of the Island you can relax and watch the sunset at Benirras Beach, a favourite spot for locals and visitors in the mood for ending their days or starting their evenings on a mellow note. Bongo players and dancers provide an impromptu show that you can take part in if you’re feeling the distinctly Balearic hippy vibes. It’s located in between San Joan and San Miguel, but as there’s no bus service you’ll have to take a bit of a hike to get there.
People watch at a café
Just because you don’t fancy wearing day-glo makeup and slamming body shots doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy the Ibiza social scene. There are numerous cafes and bars where you can sip a frozen margarita and have a chat with like-minded travellers. Those seeking to discreetly rub shoulders with the A-list crowd freshly bronzed from their yachts may want to head to Juan y Andrea on Formentera. If you are interested in meeting local bohemians, on the other hand, you may wish to visit the Can Tixedo Art Café, which serves killer tapas and showcases up and coming artwork.
Go shopping at a hippy market
A jaunt to Ibiza wouldn’t be complete without picking up some local handicrafts as souvenirs. The famous Es Cana hippy market is located on the eastern side of the island, and is a great place to pick up beaded necklaces, bangles, baubles, and bric-a-brac. Leather goods, tie-dye shirts, and random paraphernalia can be purchased for fairly reasonable prices. Alternative markets include the Las Dalias market at San Carols, and the Santa Eulalia market at S’Alemna Way.
