London Day Trips
If you are taking a trip to the UK, it’s likely that you’re planning to visit London, the capital city of England. Steeped in history and tradition, central London offers a huge range of attractions and tourist sites.
Travel
If you don’t plan to stay in the London area, then this isn’t a problem as London is easily accessible on the train, with many local railway stations providing a direct London service. Train tickets can be purchased online in advance, or bought at the ticket office in the stations. Tickets can be confusing so it’s best to call up or ask at the station if you’re not sure what you need to travel, as on the spot fines can be issued if you get caught with the wrong ticket! With train services running regularly and from 6am to midnight, there’s no reason why you can’t spend the whole day in London for your trip and get back to your comfortable hotel bed easily.
Attractions
Because London is such a popular place to visit, and the tourist economy there is booming, it can be expensive to take a look at all of the main attractions. Take a look at a guide book first to see which would be best suited for you. For example, would you like to visit the gory Tower of London for ghost stories and uniformed guards? Or would you like to see the sites from up high on the modern London Eye? Many tourism agencies discount London attractions entrance fees especially during the winter months so it’s always worth doing your research before you travel.
Food
You’ll need to eat at some point during the day, and will certainly need to rest your feet if you’ve been walking to and from the train stations. There are so many restaurants and cafes to choose from in London, with a wide variety of cuisines. If you’re spoilt for choice, consider taking advice before you go. Again, many restaurants offer London daily deals to help bring in more customers, and because of this it’s likely you’ll be able to get some fantastic quality food at a great price or with drinks for free.
Safety
When you visit London, it’s important to remember that it’s a very busy place to be. In the city centre, you will find a mix of tourists, business people, students and locals all trying to get somewhere fast. Wear comfortable shoes and keep your baggage to a minimum so it’s easier for you to get around. Make sure you wait for taxis and buses before you cross the road, as they have the right of way and like to prove this! If you get lost, find someone official to ask for directions for example a road sweeper, policeman, or security guard as they are the safest and most reliable people to ask.
