London: Off The Beaten Track
London is the most visited city in the world. It’s a city with a fascinating history, fantastic entertainment possibilities and a world famous night life. The tourist attractions are many and visited by millions of people every year, but what about the roads less taken? There is a side to London that is not on the usual tourist circuit that is just as amazing. Visitors can book a cheap hotel in London in advance with no booking fee at hostlebookers.com and experience something different. Five sites to visit in London that are off the beaten track are:
Camden Town near the Regent’s Canal, also called Camden Lock, has a huge collective market called Camden Market. It is a fascinating place to walk and shop for clothing, crafts, a quick meal and many other things. There are three boat trips along Regent’s Canal. The Jenny Wren is the largest and offers meals onboard. The Camden Water Bus is the only one that stops at the London Zoo. Jason’s Boat Company is the oldest boat trip and has been traveling the canal for 50 years. Each trip has its own charm, but they all offer a peaceful afternoon. Most of the pubs and bars in Camden have live music and any up and coming band will have a gig in Camden.
The Portobello Road runs the length of Notting Hill in west London and has the famous Portobello Market. It sells fruits, vegetables and second hand clothing among other things and on Saturday is the largest market for antiques in London. Notting Hill is an upscale area of London and its August Carnival is one of the largest street festivals in Europe.
China Town in the Soho area is the centre of Chinese-run businesses in London. There are Chinese restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, souvenir shops and it is a good place for visitors on a budget to find delicious, inexpensive food.
West End Prince Charles Cinema is the only repertory cinema in the UK that is not subsidized. They have a low ticket price policy and, because of that, they have a loyal following. They offer classic cinema downstairs and premium films upstairs. Visitors can see it all without spending a small fortune on admission.
Finally, another fun and inexpensive activity in London is the Tate to Tate boat. It travels on the Thames every 40 minutes from the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern museums. They offer a single ticket or a River Roamer which allows travellers multiple stops along the river including the Tate to Tate. The Tate Britain is one of the three national galleries of British art. It displays the development of British art from the Tudors in the 16th century to the present day. The Tate Modern displays international modern art starting from 1900. Any earlier art will be in the National Gallery.
When visiting London, everyone will see the main tourist attractions. It will give a whole different perspective on London to visit the places that many tourists don’t take the time to see. Regent’s Canal, Portobello Market and Chinatown offer a lot of good food and entertainment. The Prince Charles Cinema and Tate to Tate boat offer inexpensive cultural entertainment. Travellers will take home unique and special memories from one of the greatest cities in the World.
