Skiing on a Dime
The Top Budget Friendly Resorts in America
It’s snow season, and for many that means planning a ski trip to a great resort. But what if, like millions of others, you’ve been negatively affected by the economy? There’s no need to skip the annual vacation this year. There are a great number of budget friendly ski resorts across the country that you can enjoy. Budget resorts are also great for families new to the sport. Here are some fantastic ski resort options for those pinching pennies:
Ogden, Utah
Just a short drive from Salt Lake City, Ogden is full of price friendly restaurants and accommodations. Both Powder Mountain and Snowbasin are in proximity and offer cheap skiing options. Prices at Powder Mountain are almost half of those at other ski resorts, and you can get a two-day pass for the same price as a one-day pass at Aspen.
Snowbasin is just as lovely as Powder Mountain and just as light on the wallet. A mere $72 for a day pass gains you access to 3,000 acres of ski-able terrain, lifts and three great lodges. Shuttle buses run from each Ogden hotel to and from both resorts making transportation incredibly convenient.
Jay Peak, Vermont
A one-day adult lift ticket at Jay Peak will run you $75. Located on the Canadian border, the owners of the resort know they have to keep prices low to compete with resorts closer to major cities. Take advantage of their knowledge! If you’re looking for a package deal, you’ll find it at Jay Peak along with great prices on hotels, condos, lodges and cheap dining options.
Bridger Bowl, Montana
What makes this resort so popular is that it caters to all ability levels. No matter if you have a first time skier in the group or someone who flies down mountains like an Olympic athlete, they’ll find suitable runs at Bridger Bowl. Over 70 trails grace the 2,000 acres, and the longest is an impressive three miles long. Children under six are free and those older than seven are only $16. Adults can expect to pay $48 for lift tickets and, if you live in the area, a season pass is only $680 per adult.
Wolf Creek, Colorado
Another resort with a great mix of runs, Wolf Creek offers adult lift tickets for $54, children over six will cost you $29, and those five and under are $5. The resort averages more snow per season than the rest of Colorado and opens earlier than the rest. The beginning of November marks the start of the season at Wolf Creek, which means an extra few weeks of skiing for those so inclined.
Boston Mills, Ohio
Many skiers don’t think ‘Ohio’ when they think of great ski country, but northeast Ohio has some great slopes and cheap prices. An all day adult pass at Brandywine/Boston Mills is a mere $41, and children between five and 12 can ski all day for $36. Further discounts are offered after 3:30pm and Midnight Madness specials run on select Fridays. There are a variety of services offered at the resort as well: children’s birthday parties, ski school and equipment rental. For those that live in the region, Boston Mills offers a great alternative to pricier resorts in the west.
Many stay at home parents agree, making your budget dollars stretch further is so important in today’s economy. Mary Blanchard, a stay at home parent, has been using couponcroc.co.uk for over 5 years and finds them to offer the best variety on deals in the UK.
