Sun City – A World in One Place
Located in the beautiful Pilanesberg Mountains approximately 2 hours drive outside of Johannesburg, Sun City is a man-made tourist Mecca that has something for absolutely anyone. The beautiful resort really is a world in one place, and as a guest you will be overwhelmed by the amazing variety of activities and sights on offer at this truly unique travel destination. Let’s take a look at some of the things that make Sun City such a wildly popular destination for South Africans and global travellers alike.
The Valley of the Waves
People flock to Sun City to experience the beach lifestyle at The Valley of the Waves, a man-made beach that offers white sandy beaches, huge swells, and a monster wave that has even seen surfers and body boarders travel to the little slice of paradise. The beach regularly hosts massive spring break type parties, and there is something for everybody. Younger children tend to enjoy the more gentle resort rides, whereas older people like to play on the tube rides, and tackle the formidable Tower of Courage – a slide that is basically a hundred metre vertical drop, which is not for the faint-hearted! Whether you want to get your adrenalin flowing, laze around on the beach or just bob up and down in the waves, The Valley of the Waves has something to offer you.
The Lost City
The accommodation at Sun City is just as diverse and enjoyable as the activities on offer at this massive resort. For people on a budget, or those in a larger group, the small houses of the Cabanas are an ideal choice. However, if you are looking for something a little bit more upmarket, then staying in the Palace may be more to your liking. The hotel is styled with traditional African motifs, and the hospitality, luxury and general level of service will please even the most discerning of clients. Enjoy the casino that is located in the hotel, or relax and unwind at one of the many night clubs that lie in the lower levels. You can even grab a concert, and with big stars like Michael Jackson choosing the Lost City as venue, you can expect the very best. Whatever you are looking for, the Lost City has something on offer for you.
Pilanesberg Nature Reserve
Sun City is located alongside the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, a world-class game reserve that is home to some of South Africa’s most exotic animals. Giraffe, buffalo, lion and zebra all roam freely at this stunning park. People who choose to stay at the Lost City are also given special package prices should they choose to visit the park. This is a fantastic way to explore the wilds of Africa while you relax and unwind in the luxury of the Lost City.
Golf Course
Every avid golfer wants to test themselves on the world’s most difficult courses, and many have come (and fallen) at the Sun City Golf Course, which hosts the annual Nedbank Challenge, South Africa’s biggest gold tournament.
