A popular place for first time and experienced mountain climbers, there are several routes available to take to the Uhuru Peak on top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the highest mountain in Africa and free-standing mountain in the world, thousands of people visit this destination each year. Many services are available to help guide you up the mountain if you wish and along the way there is lodging or camp sites to rest each day.

Camp in the Safari

Safari trips are a great way to experience the wildlife and grasslands that Africa holds! There are many opportunities to experience the Tanzanian Safaris in the Serengeti. Known as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, this area has a variety of animals including zebras, gazelles, and lions along with diverse landscapes including forests, swamps, and of course grasslands. Depending on the rain and dry season, know that some camps are only open during certain months of the year. The best time of the year to see general wildlife in the safari is between June and September.

Follow the Great Migration

The Serengeti of Tanzania is also known for its Great Migration of animals in accordance with following the seasonal rain pattern. Throughout the year, Africa’s wildebeests and zebras migrate in a circle clockwise pattern across the grasslands and rivers filled with crocodiles to find land with enough fresh grass for grazing and water for the herds. Visitors can follow the migration with mobile camps. June to November is Tanzania’s dry season and therefore the best time of the year to observe the Great Migration.

Swim with the Whale Sharks at Mafia Island

If you need to take a break from the safari grassland, Tanzania also offers opportunities to enjoy the Indian Ocean on Mafia Island which is located just off of the coast. Mafia Island offers many opportunities to fully enjoy the island including the chance to take part in Whale Shark diving. Not only that but the island offers visitors to meet locals and experience all their village has to offer. Even if diving is not on your list of things to do while in Tanzania, Mafia Island offers relaxing beaches as well as reefs to watch marine life.
