Things to Consider Before Going on a Caribbean Cruise
When we hear the word “cruise,” we can’t help but think of the Caribbean. When someone asks as where we want to go if we are on a cruise ship, Caribbean will be on our top three choices. This is not surprising as the Caribbean is one of the most beautiful places in the world. This is also the reason why men and women, young and old, whether with the family, with friends or on solo, people would save up to be on one of those luxury Caribbean cruises.
Indeed, everybody wants to go on a Caribbean Cruise. If you and your family are thinking of going on a cruise, here are some of the things you should first consider:
- When to go on a Caribbean Cruise.
When planning to go on a Caribbean Cruise, you have to consider the time of the year when you want to do the trip. The month and days you are going on a cruise determines the activities you can do in the Caribbean, as well as the price of the cruise.
Majority of travellers prefer to cruise between the months of December and Easter (April) despite being a high season. During this time, the price of the cruise and other things you may want to buy as you tour around the Caribbean are at peak. On the other hand, the lean season is in fall and spring (September and October). These months are when the prices are at their lowest so despite being a hurricane season, many people still go on Caribbean Cruise during these months.
- What Type of Caribbean Cruise to Join with the Time you have.
The Caribbean is a region made up of islands on the Caribbean Sea, located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. There are more than 7000 islands, islets, reefs and cays to explore for every traveller on a Caribbean Cruise. Since the region is big, your time may be limited to doing one of the three regions. Before buying your cruise ticket, you have to know that there are four types of Caribbean cruise. They are:
a) Eastern Caribbean – if you have 3 to 7 nights, this type of cruise will get you to the Bahamas, Key West, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Croix and San Juan.
b) Western Caribbean – if you have 4, 5 or 7 nights, this type will have you cruising Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Roatan, Belize, Progresso and the Mayan Riviera,
c) Southern Caribbean – if you have up to 17 nights, this type of cruise will have you wandering over ports from Puerto Rico to as far as the north of South America.
d) Circle the Caribbean/Exotic Caribbean – if you can spend between 17 to 53 days, you may be able to tour the whole Caribbean or a combination of the Eastern, Western and Southern itinerary. This may also include the Panama Canal, one of the wonders of the world.
- What to Prepare Before the Cruise.
Before going on a Caribbean Cruise, make sure you have the most important things in order to make sure that you have an unforgettable cruise experience. The most important thing to prepare is cash. Although there are plenty of ATMs near ports, having cash on hand will keep you worry-free.
Other important things that you must bring when going on a cruise are: medications and supplements, clothes and footwear for casual travelling and formal gathering, your cruise documentations (including IDs, passport and visas) and of course, your camera.
There are plenty of companies offering the best packages for Caribbean Cruises. Once you have decided on the considerations mentioned above, it is very important that you keep your coordination with the cruise company right by the time you book for the cruise until the day of your Caribbean Cruise. It’s going to be a travel worthy of remembering so smile and have fun at the ship!
