Things to Do in Dammam

Dammam

As soon as you touch down at the King Fahd International Airport, it is clear that you have been transported to a world very different than yours at home. Even just during the journey from the airport to the city, you will already see endless dunes of sand and nomadic Bedouin tribes who make their home in tents in the desert.

When you reach Dammam, you will find a city with ancient roots that travel far back in history. This area has been inhabited for more than two thousand years, and since the discovery of oil in the region this area has been experiencing a boom like none other in its long history. Dammam is now a modern urban and industrial centre and the headquarters of the Saudi Arabian oil industry.

If you are travelling through Dammam, here are some ideas of fun things to do in this exciting Middle Eastern city:

  • The Corniche Dammam

The Corniche is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. It is the picturesque seaside walkway that stretches all the way from Azaziah Beach to Tarot Island. It is a great place to take a long and leisurely stroll, and as you walk along the Corniche you can enjoy some of the massive modern art installations on display. There is also an area designed for sports and games, as well as many opportunities for water sports. A central point of recreation in Dammam, there is always something fun happening along the Corniche.

  • Fishing on Coral Island

Another fun activity to partake in during your Dammam holiday is fishing on Coral Island, which is only 1,800 metres away from the Corniche of Dammam. It is the best place to go fishing on the island, and there are many boating facilities that will get you out on the water, or you can simply cast your line from the shore. Most visitors end up catching at least a small or average sized fish while fishing at Coral Island.

  • Dammam Heritage Centre

If you are interested in the history of this part of the world, you can lose several fascinating hours at the Dammam Heritage Centre. This museum shows the crafts, clothing and tools of the people who have lived in Saudi Arabia from the Stone Age until recent times. There is a beautiful collection of Islamic pottery and traditional costumes.

  • Desert Camel Ride

There are many tours in Dammam that will give you the chance to ride on a camel through the Saudi Arabian desert for only a few dollars. This is an iconic travel experience that you will remember for many years to come.

Dammam is a great travel destination, with many fun activities that will add to your experience of visiting the Middle East.

Getting There

King Fahd International Airport is the airport link to Dammam, and it is located out in the middle of the desert, surrounded by camels, sand dunes and Bedouin tents. It is the largest airport in the world when it comes to land area and can be reached by many international locations.
