Touring Scotland by Coach
Scotland has some stunning scenery and some fascinating, exciting, vibrant, historic cities. A coach tour that includes the whole of Scotland is quite a long one, so most people opt for a shorter mini-tour.
Which itinerary should I choose?
The itinerary you choose for your Scotland tour will depend on the time you have available, your budget, and any particular interests you have. Someone with an interest in history and culture may want to include more cities on their itinerary, whereas someone with a keen interest in wildlife might want to spend more time in the countryside.
Highlights of Scotland – the Cities
The two biggest cities in Scotland are Edinburgh and Glasgow. Both of them have a rich history and there are many things you can do in the cities connected with the city. Both have strong cultural traditions, although the Edinburgh Festival, and the ever-growing Fringe festival mean that people often associate Scotland’s capital more with culture. If you are considering including a trip to Edinburgh during the festival, then it is important to book early as this time of year is incredibly popular. Other cities worth visiting in Scotland are Aberdeen and Dundee. They are less popular with tourists than their neighbours further south, but still with enough to warrant a day or two, or certainly an excursion.
The Highlands
Whether you are an artist, a photographer, a writer, a nature lover, or none of these, you cannot fail to be moved by the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Here, being on a coach will be great advantage as the distances can be quite tiring for a driver, and also the coach driver will know the best roads to take and be familiar with weather patterns. It can be easy to get lost if you don’t know the area. If you are making the effort to come up to Scotland then you really should spend at least some time in the Highlands.
Loch Ness
Everyone who comes to Scotland wants to see Loch Ness. Not because it is any more beautiful than the other lochs (lakes) in Scotland, because they are all beautiful. Most people choose Loch Ness because they hope they will catch a glimpse of the fabled Loch Ness monster. Make sure you have your camera with you, in case you are one of the lucky few!
Other options
Of course there is so much to see in Scotland that you won’t be able to see it all on one coach tour. But after you’ve had a taste of Scotland you will probably want to return, and if you’ve tried it by coach, there will be no other way you want to do it.
