What to See and Do in Cardiff

What to See in Cardiff

What to See in Cardiff

Like many other UK cities, Cardiff has seen a lot of regeneration in recent years, particularly in areas that were previously industrial docks. Students, industry, commerce, and even TV programme makers have started to consider Cardiff as a great location. Only two hours from London, Cardiff can provide you with enough entertainment for a weekend, or a week, depending on what you want to do. If you are staying for just a couple of days, then there are some things that you just shouldn’t miss out on.

One of the best ways to see the various sights of Cardiff, and to help you decide which ones to go back and visit, is on one of the open top bus tours that run in the city. They have commentary in several languages and are a great introduction to the Welsh capital.Once you’ve got an idea of the layout of the city, there are some attractions you will probably want to visit and see in more detail.

Cardiff castle

Wales is famous for its castles, and Cardiff castle is one of the best, and the pride of the city. A beautifully ornate interior, 2000 years of history and many events throughout the year make this one of Wales’ most visited sights, and no visit to Cardiff would be complete without seeing it.

The Millennium Stadium

Home of the Welsh rugby and football teams, and a venue for stadium rock and pop concerts, tours of this impressive modern stadium are available daily.

The National Museum and Gallery

If you are interested in Welsh history or art then there will be something here to interest you. The art on display includes works by the impressionists, and there are some interesting science displays in the museum. What’s more, entry is free.

Cardiff Bay

Fans of the TV programme, “Torchwood” will recognise Cardiff Bay as the sit of the Torchwood HQ. Many scenes for this and Doctor Who were filmed in Cardiff. The Bay is one of the main areas in the city for bars and restaurants, and it’s a great place for people watching. There is also a marina, with services for boat owners, and there are boat trips out into the bay.

Outside the city

There won’t be much reason to leave the city if you are on a short break here, but if you do then much of South Wales is easily accessible. The Brecon Beacons are an hour away, and some beautiful parts of England including the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean are also only an hour’s drive away.

There are so many reasons to visit Cardiff now, but it would be better if you don’t take our word for it, and go and see for yourself!
